The San Fernando City Council (Cádiz, Spain) has endorsed a technical and economic study confirming the feasibility of a public-private partnership for water service management.
An initial investment of €25 million will fund 25 priority projects aimed at improving the city’s water infrastructure. The plan includes two main areas: public roadworks (22 projects) and hydraulic system upgrades (3 projects). Key initiatives involve:
- Renewing pumping stations
- Implementing remote meter reading
- Sectorizing the drinking water network for better efficiency
The public-private model ensures majority municipal control while streamlining project execution. Water tariffs will not increase without explicit council approval.
The council will now seek bids from private sector partners, retaining a 51% stake in the joint venture. The selected projects are ready for immediate implementation once the partnership is formalized.
