Puerto Rico’s energy utility Luma is set to replace nearly 1.5 million meters damaged by Hurricane Maria in 2017 with smart meters, following a funding allocation of over $786 million. This advanced metering infrastructure aims to enhance electricity system operations, improve security, and handle irregular situations during extreme weather. Benefits include quicker service responses, energy-saving programs, and accurate billing. The rollout, starting in summer 2024, will span three years.
