The Terrassa City Council and municipal water company Taigua will present the EFIAIGUA project on April 10 at the Comarcal Archive. The initiative, focused on digital transformation and water cycle efficiency, has a budget of €7 million, with €5.5 million in funding from the EU-backed PERTE program under the Next Generation initiative, promoted by Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition.
The project aims to modernize urban water management by reducing supply system leaks and improving sewer network monitoring. Key measures include digitizing water sources, installing smart meters, optimizing energy efficiency, and advancing leak detection through LoRaWAN technology. Additionally, feasibility studies will explore the use of reclaimed water for industrial and irrigation purposes, as well as aquifer recharge.
A third of the sewer network, including the northern basin of the Palau stream, will be analyzed to mitigate flood risks during heavy rainfall. Preliminary work, starting this spring, should provide essential data for developing a legally required Integrated Sanitation System Management Plan.
