Barcelona will launch two pilot projects in late 2025 to address urban noise pollution caused by traffic, which accounts for 85% of the city’s noise levels. Supported by the Barcelona Innova Mobility Lab initiative—led by the city council in collaboration with BIT Habitat and Fira de Barcelona—these trials will run for 18 months and receive €100,000 each in funding.
The first project, by Dutch company Sorama BV, deploys acoustic cameras and AI to identify vehicles exceeding noise thresholds, with real-time data displayed on public LED panels. The second, developed by Spanish firms Bettair and Trafficnow, integrates high-precision acoustic sensors, computer vision, and AI-based predictive algorithms to correlate noise and traffic data, helping anticipate disruptive events and support sustainable mobility planning.
Both projects will be showcased at Tomorrow.Mobility 2025, held alongside the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona.
