The Data Communications Company (DCC) has begun rolling out 4G communication hubs for Britain’s smart meters, with mass deployment set for summer 2025. This upgrade aims to future-proof the network as 2G/3G sunsets by late 2023.
Suppliers will install around 10,000 hubs between December 2024 and February 2025 for validation. Developed with partners like Vodafone and Toshiba, the dual-band solution enhances installation and extends home network reach.
DCC’s network, among Europe’s largest, connects nearly 20 million premises and over 33 million smart meters, with daily connections averaging 16,300.
