Caruna, Finland’s largest electricity distribution system operator (DSO), has embarked on a €100 million-plus modernization project in partnership with Aidon Oy, part of the Gridspertise group. This agreement involves the delivery and deployment of 760,000 advanced electricity meters, scheduled for installation between 2027 and 2029.
The contract also includes metering services and provisions for additional meters to support new building projects within Caruna’s network. With an initial fixed term of eight years, the collaboration will continue indefinitely, ensuring long-term operational support.
The large-scale replacement project will begin with pilot installations in 2027, with full implementation by 2030. Focused on safety, cost efficiency, and customer satisfaction, the new metering infrastructure will empower Caruna’s customers with advanced energy management capabilities while supporting Finland’s transition to renewable energy sources.
Caruna, serving over 739,000 customers across Finland and accounting for 20% of the country’s electricity distribution, aims to enhance energy reliability and enable small-scale electricity production.
