The City of Palm Bay has secured a $160,090 grant through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program to enhance traffic flow and reduce emissions by synchronizing traffic signals at key intersections.
The project, part of the city’s broader infrastructure modernization efforts, will integrate a centralized Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) to optimize signal timing. Seven intersections will be upgraded to improve traffic efficiency and minimize stop-and-go driving.
Implementation is underway, with all necessary hardware, including the Econolite Centracs Mobility system and Miovision Scout devices, already received. These systems will collect traffic data to develop optimized signal timing plans. The city is coordinating with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to establish the required internet connection and deploy wireless communication equipment.
This initiative aims to reduce energy consumption and emissions while enhancing overall transportation efficiency in Palm Bay.
